Over my nearly three decades of parenting and educating kids with dyslexia and ADHD I have learned that if we can foster a child’s sense of internal motivation, home education is way easier and more enjoyable for everyone. But how do we foster internal motivation? That’s what this post is all about.

Fostering Internal Motivation in Struggling Learners

Today I’m interviewing Gina Riley, Ph.D. who is an educational psychologist, Clinical Professor, and Program Leader of the Adolescent Special Education Program at City University of New York – Hunter College. She has over fifteen years of experience working with teens diagnosed with learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders. She is known internationally for her work in the fields of homeschooling, unschooling, and self-directed learning.

And while she was doing all of these amazing things, she unschooled her son who is now pursuing his Master’s degree and thriving.
